If the update was installed on your printer, and you are using a refilled cartridge from Cartridge World, your printer will display "Missing or damaged cartridge" message. To use our cartridges, you must remove and re-install the printer software by performing the following steps:
SOFTWARE REMOVAL
- Locate the Control Panel in your computer settings. Control panel access will depend on the operating system you are using, i.e. Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, etc.
- In the left column find Programs and click on the uninstall a program.
- Locate the software for your printer (HP Officejet Pro 86XX)
- You will be asked to verify that you want to uninstall the software. Click OK and wait for the program to finish. In some cases you may have to reboot the computer to complete the uninstall.
SOFTWARE RE-INSTALLATION
- Use the Installation Disc that came with your printer and insert it into the disc drive in your computer. (If you do not have the installation disc go to the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Series site and download the software.)
- Follow the software setup prompts until you get to this screen
- Make sure the printer is turned on, the ink cartridges are installed and there is paper in the tray, then press continue to bring up this screen.
- This screen allows you to select the software to be installed for the printer. It is very important that you select the Customize Software Selections indicated by the arrow above. (If you do not select the customize feature, it will install all of the listed software and you will have to follow the uninstall process again in order to use our cartridges!) Once you select the customize software, the following screen will appear.
- This screen allows you to select the software you want to install for the printer. When you come to this screen, all of the boxes will be checked. Selection is based user preference. We do not recommend selection of any of these software products except the I.R.I.S OCR. This will assist with scanned text documents. Regardless of the ones you choose, it is important that the HP Update is left blank. (If you select this option you will not be able to use our cartridges in your printer!) Click next to continue the re-installation.
In the future, you may be prompted that there is a new firmware update for your printer, do you wish to install? REMEMBER TO SAY NO TO FIRMWARE UPDATES.
You are now ready to use our re-manufactured cartridges!
